At the heart of an exchange in the New England Journal of Medicine between Dr Steven Nissen and Dr Rory Collins and Sir Richard Peto is whether or not a conclusion can be made that there is "no credible evidence" regarding a cancer risk associated with ezetimibe. The analysis, driven primarily by the results of two large clinical trials, showed that fish oil was associated with a significant 20% reduction in the risk of cardiac death but did not reduce the incidence of appropriate ICD interventions or sudden cardiac death. An FDA advisory committee will review prasugrel for the treatment of ACS patients who are managed with PCI on February 3, 2009. Separately, the FDA has also said it may consider changing the label for clopidogrel following studies published last week that show it might not be effective in up to 30% of patients.
