Boston, MA - The American College of Cardiology (ACC) announced this week that Dr Christopher Cannon (Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA) will serve as the new editor-in-chief of Cardiosource, an online clinical education website [1]. Cannon takes the reins of Cardiosource from founding editor and current ACC vice president Dr Alfred Bove, who developed and led the site for the past 5 years.

"What is unique about Cardiosource is that it has the full force of the American College of Cardiology behind it," Cannon told heartwire. "The ACC has so many activities going on in the field of improving quality of care, and I look forward to working with each branch of the ACC to help highlight these activities, with the goal of improving cardiovascular care."
With medical information, including late-breaking clinical trials, as well as journals, textbooks, and guidelines, moving online, Cardiosource allows clinicians to easily stay up-to-date with the most relevant research findings and best practices, notes Cannon. In a recent editorial posted on Cardiosource [2], Cannon cited the recent rosiglitazone (Avandia, GlaxoSmithKline) controversy as an example of the strength of the site. With the news of a possible increased cardiovascular risk associated with the diabetes drug, Cardiosource provided next-day statements from ACC president Dr James Dove as well as Dr Jack Lewin, chief executive officer of the ACC.
The ACC also recently declared 2007 the "Year of Quality," with the intention of improving cardiovascular care and disease prevention through education, research, leadership in the development of standards and guidelines, and the formulation of healthcare policy. As part of this mission, the ACC plans to expand the association between Cardiosource and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, as well as two new journalsJACC Cardiovascular Interventions and JACC Cardiovascular Imagingthat will be launched in 2008.
"It is a privilege to have the opportunity build on what Fred Bove and the associate editors have built," Cannon told heartwire. "I am excited to work with Mike Gibson, Peter Block, Kim Eagle, and all the associate editors and editorial board members to take Cardiosource to the next level."
Cannon is a senior investigator of the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Study Group, which has led the PROVE IT-TIMI 22 and TACTICS-TIMI 18 trials. He also contributes frequently to news reports and educational programs available on theheart.org.
