Episode #3: Percutaneous aortic-valve procedures

Jul 29, 2009 11:30 EDT

From fiction to fact: in the near future most aortic-valve procedures will be percutaneous. Join Drs Topol and Teirstein for a light hearted discussion that—while also evoking harpoons and pulp fiction—illustrates why this procedure is transformational for patient outcomes, a welcome collaboration between interventionalist and vascular surgeon, and the path forward for aortic-valve replacement.

Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (PAVR)

Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (PAVR) is a new technology used for treatment of aortic valve disease. There are cases where the heart’s aortic valve becomes narrowed thus preventing it from opening properly. This in turn blocks the blood flow from the left lower chamber of the heart to the aorta. In order to maintain the normal blood flow percutaneous aortic valve replacement is done.
