#49: The pros and cons of being a cardiologist in 2012 with Dr Seth Bilazarian

Jul 4, 2012 10:45 EDT

The practice of cardiology has taken a beating over the past years. Tough financial times and intense coverage of inappropriate procedures have tipped a balance: the reverence with which cardiologists (and physicians at large) were once held seems to have been replaced by an atmosphere of suspicion and blame. It's unsurprising, then, that recent surveys of happiness among cardiologists detect a trend toward gloominess and professional dissatisfaction. Are we doomed? Private practitioner and theheart.org blogger Dr Seth Bilazarian joins the show to discuss the pros and cons of cardiology in 2012 and express what continues to make his practice enjoyable and fulfilling (despite it all).

i congratulation on herat org for arranging such intresting and truth which doctors specially called cardiologist

i am dr sumera nasim consultant cardiologist private practice .Accoring to my propespective the pros and cons of cardiologist . first the prroa of cardiologist is the satisfaction which u get when cured bc it is not oncology .and in our country pts cosider as gods will showered us with prayers

the crons are 1 the patients are misguided by ur own professional they change their consultant it is frustating we worked in pakistan day and night not for money for all types of pts CCF, AF or non interventional pts my care to both type of patients with intervention and those who donot required is same bc they are patiente i donot agree that i donot to see the complication of procedure bc doing the procedure is easy but after care and time spent to the pt is most important which keep pt never leave. the biggest cron as female cardiologist is the time management and lack of happiness and balancing home and work is the biggest frustation that why in pakistan only 5% are female cardiologist and mostly unmarried.i was first female cardiologist at renowned in aga khan cardiologist my working works 13 hrs day but at the cost of my personal life but i am not disappointed i encouraged female to join cardiology bc in our culture women prefered women but i advice them donot forget urself bc time will not wait .u can get money , pts professional growth but little break is necessary sometimes to keep remind urself that ur human being.i am also big supporter cardiologist but their should btween money and personal life and comprising chronic cardiologist pts is not justified
