"Get With the Guidelines" is a striking example of a successful nationwide initiative that addresses the gap between guidelines and performance by providing tools for healthcare providers and hospitals to improve care in both the in-patient and out-patient setting. In an era of budget cuts and heightened accountability, GWTG shows the viability of tackling quality gaps while fostering improved care across a variety of barriers such as location, age, sex, and ethnicity.
