Coagulopathy from liver disease does not protect against VTE

Aug 16, 2010 09:35 EDT

In his recent paper, Dr Ousama Dabbagh shows that patients with advanced liver disease are at high risk of developing PE and DVT. The take-home message is important: don't be fooled by a high INR in a patient with liver disease, as it in no way implies protection from VTE.

What is your experience with VTE in liver disease patients?

This is tremendous information Samuel. Practice-changing as we admit these patients all the time and don't give them any thromboprophylaxis. It is rare that a study comes around that alters our practice.
