At the NLA symposium in Phoenix last year, I showed that lowering LDL beyond 79 mg/dl (based on the direct measurement of HDL, or 69 mg/dl based on the direct measurement of HDL) assured maximal stabilization/regression of plaque angiographically. There was no benefit to lowering LDL to ultra low levels. The abstract is posted on the e-pooster hall of the NLA or the paper in full is available at my website (www.bowlinggreenstgudy.org), which is free and open to all...Also, at the next NLA symposium in Las Vegas, I have submitted three abstracts, concerning HDL and plaque stabilization/regression. If one raises HDL, then one need not lower LDL as much, and if one raises HDL by a lot, then plaque stabilization/regression can occur even if LDL arises. This is best seen in POSCH.
