A home-based approach to the postdischarge care of patients with heart failure didn't improve survival or rehospitalization rates in the trial, compared with care at a specialty outpatient clinic, but maybe that shouldn't be the point of such a trial, according to researchers.

Chamber volumes and symptoms improved in patients with mitral regurgitation who were deemed too high risk for surgery but given the transcatheter implant. The benefits seemed more pronounced in the majority who had functional rather than degenerative mitral regurgitation.

Not only was incident AF reduced in patients with mild heart failure randomized to receive eplerenone, the drug was just as clinically effective in those with and without the arrhythmia at baseline.
