Sue Hughes joined theheart.org as a medical journalist in 2000. Before that she was science editor at Scrip World Pharmaceutical News, where she had worked since 1989. Sue studied pharmacy at Manchester University, UK and worked as an NHS hospital pharmacist for a couple of years before switching to medical journalism, via a spell at the UK's professional pharmacy publication, the Pharmaceutical Journal. Sue was a member of theheart.org team that won the Online News Association Online Journalism Award in the category of Specialty Site Journalism-Independent in 2010.

Sue lives halfway between London and Oxford, in the UK, and when not working, is usually running around after her family or looking for her wayward dog.
