Steve has been reporting on cardiovascular medicine continuously since IV streptokinase was the next big thing. He was a writer for Practical Cardiology and then a journalist and Associate Editor at Cardio magazine for 11 years, and freelanced for another nine (long) years before joining theheart.org in 2004. He's a proud member of the heartwire team that won the Online News Association Online Journalism Award in the category of Specialty Site Journalism (Independent) in 2010, and the 2008 recipient of the Howard L Lewis Career Achievement Award for health and science reporting from the American Heart Association.

A graduate of Kenyon College with a master's in science communication from Boston University, Steve lives in Fremont, CA at the foot of the East Bay hills.
